RESEARCH

Part 1: What I Need to Know

The question driving my research is “How can I distinguish myself in my future profession if it is the next new and desired medical profession in its field?” Through these past years, I have decided that I want to study to become a physician assistant. Therefore, my research conducted through this project is vital to my future. I want to be able to succeed and become an established medical professional. I am hoping that this mentorship and research will provide me with answers to help me dictate what my future holds.

Part 2: What I Know or Assume

The career of a Physician Assistant is booming exponentially in the medical field. I have been able to witness the medical hierarchy that is present in the health care field and how this may affect the type of care provided to the patients. Different degrees and credentials provide you with a certain set of skills and abilities but I have continued to wonder if I would be limited to those alone. I know you may specialize when you are a doctor and most nurses have certain rotations that they prefer but, how does this differ for a physician assistant? A large part to success in the medical field is knowing up-to-date procedures and techniques as well as having a passion to care for others. I have deduced that this skill will get me far but, what else can I do now to determine and advance my possibilities for my future?

Part 3: My Search

My research mainly consisted of my three sources that I used for my annotated bibliography and my interview with an actual physician assistant. These four outlets of information alone were enough to conduct an overall understanding about how to become the best physician assistant in the field and how to seperate yourself in the medical community. Physician assistants alone have similar capabilities of one like a physician except surgery. Their lateral mobility between specialties, time efficiency, patient communication and passion for their job can take the medical community above and beyond its average standard. Through pure desire and accuracy in their field, physician assistants are emerging into the next best occupation.

Part 4: What I Discovered

I discovered that physician assistants are not only benefficial but revolutionary and profound differences will be noted as you gain this intelligent and modern medical professional to your health care team. In many settings, a physician assistant can be found most useful in very urban settings where many patients are seen in a short amount of time or in rural settings. This can be useful to a physician through allowing the physician assistant to perform all patient care hand in hand with the nurses to develop a relationship with the patient. Forming a bond between a patient and their provider ensures most likely results when looking toward a healthier lifestyle therefore being open and well-known of all your patients can exhibit the best results. This seperates you from other health care professionals because your patients are more willing to discuss their health with you and trust your judgement for their care if you know their names and their histories. In the next 25 years, the amount of physicians is suppose to decrease by 50% while the physician assistant field is suppose to increase by 75% by the year 2025. This is a huge factor when determining where to work because physician assistants are going to be needed now more than ever. Another beneffical part of being with a physician assistant allows you to work in a well developed team to ensure that all parts of their treamtent are well planned and secure them to have a better success for the future. To differentiate yourself, you need to specialize in many different fields and do as many different residencies as you can. I have learned that more practice and experience is never a bad thing and can only help you to determine how to be the best you that you can be! I am truly glad that this program and my mentorship have allowed to utilize these tactics so that treating patients and differentiating myself in my communtiy can be easy and help me in my future!
