SLOANE SENGSON

THE NEXT STEPS TO BECOMING A PA

About Me

I had the amazing opportunity to mentor at Guilford Clinic. When I heard about the Honors Mentorship Program, I certainly did not picture myself mentoring at an urgent care clinic. Quite frankly when I started this mentorship, I wasn't all that excited because of struggles with trying to find the perfect medical office. After just a few visits, I found myself working at Guilford more than I was hanging out with friends because of what a great environment this clinic has allowed me to learn and grow in. I have learned so many new skills and can't wait to mentor here again next year! This mentorship has solidified my desire to pursue a medical career.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO DISTINGUISH YOURSELF IN YOUR COMMUNITY?

OVERVIEW

The purpose of my research is to show that even in the midst of a field full of other aspiring physician assistants, you can still be different and unique. Being different and unique doesn’t result in you doing things weird or out of the ordinary but being examplar. Being unique in the medical field means you go above and beyond for your patients and you strive to be nothing less than extraordinary. Through my experience at Guilford Immediate Care, I get to witness this everyday as the staff shows their passion to serve and help their community. Apart from my experience, my research has helped me to understand the great aspects about being a physician assistant. Physician Assistants are very knowledgable in their field as well as have the capability to sub-specialize in other types of medicine. Physician Assistants are very involved in their patient’s care and are present from start to finish. They develop relationships with their patients to ensure great medical care and establish a comfortable environment for the patient. Physician Assistants have altered the hierarchy of medical staff forever as they do not just obtain one set of credentials but work in all types of fields and all forms of care. Through my mentorship, I have learned so many new skills that will help me be a better medical professional as well as better communicator and student. In my future, I can become as I participate in many volunteer and interning opportunities available to me. I hope to receive an education and specialize in more than one field to expand my scope of care. Getting experience and more edcuation can truly set you apart from other individuals as I aspire to do just that.
